SEO Checklist for New Websites – DIY Search Engine Optimization
Online Reputation Management
Reputation Management Can Help any Organization to Constantly Improve
Reputation management comes after you have fully understood how the reputation of a business or even an individual, is affected by actions taken during the course of conducting business or dealing with others. Earlier this was considered a part of public relations.
Reputation management involves monitoring the reputation of the business or person and addressing the issues that are affecting the reputation negatively. Such reputation management can be pro-active or reactive. It can be easier to deal with this aspect of image building by ensuring that any system for monitoring is fully automated. This has become much easier with the use of the internet, and it is easy for such PR managers to get full information on every reference made regarding the business or person on the World Wide Web. This brings in a lot of information, which when properly analysed will indicate the perception of the reputation in the eyes of customers or the public at large.
It is very important for any exercise that involves online reputation management that an avenue is given for customers or others to express their views openly on forums like Facebook, local directory sites, etc. This is a reactive form of the management but can be quite effective, if enough importance is given to the grievances and complaints and effective action taken to take corrective action. At this stage, it is very important to have a proper communication with the aggrieved customer, and ensure that not only an action taken but to deal with some SEO strategies. Take for example, giving publicity to such efforts can allow for a better public image.
Positive reviews must be encouraged and given a lot of publicity. At the same time effort must be made to ensure that such reviews are genuine and easily verifiable, by anyone. Response to negative reviews must be immediate and done without any sense of being let down. Many companies use such negative reviews to constantly change their products and services, and this goes a long way to reinforce their positive reputation, as well as increasing sales. It also allows businesses to constantly be aware of what the customers require and at times may enforce innovation and technological improvements in products.
A proper review of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that an organization or person faces will greatly help to enhance reputation, if such assessment is made fearlessly and frankly. This helps to augment the positives while action can be taken to tackle the negatives, or at least ensure that they do not mar the reputation.
Google Penalty Recovery Tips
Google Penalty Recovery Tips For Webmasters
Many sites got penalized by Google because of the Panda and Penguin updates to the algorithm. Some of them deserved the penalty, as they didn’t add any value to the world. Others, however, got caught in this machine and sank without being guilty of anything. Many webmasters and small business owners saw their businesses killed overnight.
Recovery from a Google penalty is possible, if you know what to do. This article will give you a few tips to help you bring your Google search rankings back. They aren’t 100% guaranteed, but they helped some sites recover along the way, so they might as well work for yours.
Identify Your Penalty
The first step you need to take after getting penalized is to identify what type of penalty you’ve got. There are two types of penalties: manual and automatic. If yours is automatic, all you can see is a drop in rankings and consequently in your organic search traffic. If it’s a manual penalty, Google is going to send you a message in your Webmaster Tools account. Check whether you’ve got such a message and what information you can get from it. If the penalty reason is low-quality links, Google may give you one or two examples. This is how you can get an idea about what kind of links they consider spammy and artificial.
Assess Your Links
If you know you’ve got an unnatural links penalty, you must try to identify all such links and get rid of them. One option is to write webmasters who linked to you and ask them to remove the links. The other method is to use Google’s link disavowing tool on all suspicious links.
Identifying bad links may be a problem, as you don’t have a lot of tools to work with. By connecting your domain with Google Analytics, you can get details about your backlinks. All links that are considered by Google and pass PR are potentially damaging your rankings. However, you need to filter them somehow, because you can’t get rid of all your links, as you can imagine. Check for over optimized anchor texts, for links from blog networks or from websites that are written in other languages.
Make a list of all possibly bad links and disavow them. This is very easy to do, as you can put all of them in the same report. After that, you still need to try and get rid of as many of them as you can.
Submit A Reconsideration Request
When you are sure you disavowed or removed all unnatural links, you need to fill in a reconsideration request and ask for the penalty to be removed. Be very specific in your letter. Tell the story as it happened, and then explain in detail what measures you have taken to fix the situation.
If you are lucky, you are going to receive a response to your reconsideration request within a few weeks. If it’s positive, your rankings will slowly come back. If they don’t and you get no favorable response, you need to start over. Eventually, if your site is good, it might recover. A Guide To SEO After Penguin 3.0
Penguin 3.0 was finally released on October 17th, 2014 i.e. a full year since the release of Penguin 2.1. This has been a long awaited update among many webmasters whose websites were negatively affected by the Penguin last year. This algorithm is not applied on a constant basis and has to be rolled out by Google in order for you to see any changes to the traffic on your website if you have been hit in the past. Meaning, even if you made the necessary changes to your website and removed spammy links/disavowed the links that made you get the penalty in the first place, your site would not have recovered until Google refreshed the update for all the sites in its index.
Thankfully, Google finally did so on October 17th and many webmasters who were hit previously have reported improvements and restoration to their traffic. Unfortunately, not everyone is as lucky as the Penguin specifically targets the links on a website and if you have spammy links or links that are against Google’s TOS, then you will be penalized. A penalty means that your search engine rankings will drop and you will lose most if not all the traffic to your site which will cause you to lose income.
This last Penguin update is reported to have only affected approximately 1% of queries. Unfortunately, if you happened to only disavow bad links to your website within three weeks of the update (after 26th September, 2014) then you’d have been too late to avoid the effects of Penguin 3.0.
So, exactly how do you go about doing SEO after Penguin 3.0? Well, the first thing you need to do is take a close and critical look at your website. Do you currently offer paid posts or paid links? The penguin is extremely focused on links and we all know that Google is against paid links and selling links in general. However, selling links on your website is a good way to make a monthly income. If you can avoid selling links, that would be best, however, if you insist on doing so, then make sure to use a “no follow” attribute. This tells Google not to pass any link juice from your website to the website you’re linking out to and looks more natural. You should also add a few links that go out to high quality, related websites such as to Wikipedia. This will serve to dilute your paid links and make your website more useful.
Another point to note is that Google’s penguin algorithm also cracks down on websites that offer excessive guest posting. You should therefore only allow a few guest posts from relevant and related websites and try to keep these links natural. Meaning, don’t allow over optimized anchor texts within the guest posts.
This leads to my next point on the importance of anchor text variation. Anchor texts usually help search engines to determine what keywords the post or site is related to and was a huge factor that helped webmasters to rank for their desired keywords. This was until the point that webmasters and internet marketers started abusing it and caused Google to crack down on this practice and reduce its relevance. As a result, you should always have very varied anchor texts and rarely use the keyword you’re targeting within your anchor texts.
Another common SEO method that many webmasters have been using to generate a lot of backlinks is the use of links within free products, widgets, WordPress themes, plugins, infographics etc. This was once very effective as you were able to get large amounts of links from all types of websites that used your free product. Unfortunately, this method can now only get your site penalized by Google. Therefore, if you must include a link, make sure it is no follow and vary your anchor text so you don’t get an over optimization penalty.
Next, it is absolutely critical that you avoid link farms and paid links. Building backlinks is hard work, however, taking the easy way out and using paid links is a sure way to Google doom. Don’t fall for those fast $5 fiverr backlink services or private blog networks such as Rank Hero. It’s no longer 2011 and your site will be penalized!
As you can see, the world of SEO just keeps evolving and you need to adapt your web optimization methods if you want your site to remain penalty free and keep receiving free organic traffic. Once you follow the above tips, your site will definitely be Penguin 3.0 proof.
The Truth About Freelance Web Design
WordPress Web Design
Here are 5 tips for anyone wanting information about WordPress web design by Trish Riedel from Top Web Design Gold Coast
Be Careful With Color
One problem that many designers have is figuring out how to effectively use colour. While you want to call attention to your page, it is never a good idea to overdo it with your colour palette. Ideally, you should use two complementary colors when building a site. If you are intent on adding more, you should add no more than one additional hue, and it should serve as an accent to the main colors scheme of the site.
Save Images With Low Resolution
When you plan to use images on your site, it is important for you to save them at the lowest possible resolution you can use where they will still look attractive. This will help your site’s pages load much faster, which is crucial when you are trying to attract visitors. If you ignore this tip, and it takes too long for pages to load due to heavy images, you will lose a large part of your intended audience.
Join WordPress Blogs And Forums
One thing you must understand about WordPress is the fact that there are changes made to it all the time. If you want to get the most out of your experience, it is important for you to stay on top of things. One way to achieve this would be to join as many blogs and forums as you can.
Signing up is certainly not enough. You should subscribe to newsletters if they are available, participate in discussions and read content on a regular basis. Failing to use the site to your advantage means that you may not be able to reap all of the benefits that are offered to WordPress users.
Font Means Everything
When people head to your site, one of the first design elements they will notice is the font. If you are looking for a way to catch their attention, use a font that is a bit more stylish than basic block lettering. With that said, try not to use something that is far too fancy and out of the box since this may make it difficult for some visitors to read it. For instance, some script style fonts are so ornate that they make it hard to discern between several letters.
Aim For An Uncluttered Page
It can be exciting when you are first becoming familiar with WordPress. All of the plug-ins, themes and page elements can make it very easy for someone to go overboard. Try your best to create a page that is as simple as possible and flows nicely. The fewer elements you have on the page, the more people will be able to focus on what matters. Your page should not be so loud and garish that people will have a hard time staying on the page and enjoying all of the content you have to offer.
WordPress can seem rather complicated to those who are not particularly familiar with it. Even so, having the right information at your fingertips will help you master the art of smart design. Now that you have this advice available to you, there should be no reason for you to have a tough time when you are trying to create a winning page.

Websites That Rank Well In Google
If you have ever thought about creating a website that can rank well in the search engines, you know that this takes on a bit of effort on the part of the webmaster. There are certain aspects of creating a website, and building links back to that site, which can help improve its overall ranking every single day. With all of the new updates which Google does on a regular basis which are not done to actually help people have a better experience on the search engines as they say, but is simply done so that people cannot understand their algorithm, we will change their algorithm every now and then to make it more difficult for smaller companies to compete without using their advertising. In order to combat this behavior on the part of Google, there are certain things you can do to ensure that Google can never take away your top position, nor keep you from achieving one. Here are simple tips that you can use in order to get websites that rank well in Google, websites that will achieve and maintain their rankings.
Understanding How Google Thinks
Unlike a traditional advertising firm where you pay for advertising, and you will receive a certain amount of traffic, Google makes it very difficult for people to use search engine optimization in order to achieve similar results. Essentially, it would be like paying Google for advertising, and then having them change the rules on what type of ads you could place, how much you had to pay, and the quality of traffic that you would receive every single month. This would become a nightmare, and that’s really what a search engine optimization specialist is dealing with, the fickleness of Google on a regular basis. However, if you use the following strategies, the algorithm that Google uses will never affect you because you will appear to be gaining top rankings in a completely natural way, thus hiding in plain sight and achieving excellent results.
Three Strategies That Google Can’t Detect
There are three specific strategies that will always work when trying to rank on Google. You just have to implement them the right way. By doing these in this order, and never overdoing it, the algorithm will only help you and not hurt you. The first thing you need to do is put all unique content on your website, with pages that have at least 700 words of content. Second, you need to update on a regular basis with articles that range from 300 words to 1000 words, and update intermittently. Third, you need to get back-links pointing to your website, and the easiest way to do this is to set up Web 2.0 properties and videos, preferably YouTube videos, and create Tier 2 links pointing to these properties. By placing links on your Web 2.0 properties, and on your Google videos, you will benefit from the page rank that all of these websites have, helping you to boost your self to the top of the search engines in a completely natural and organic way.
Although Google will continue to change their algorithms, it really doesn’t matter. There is no way for them to combat the natural progression of a website to the top of the search engine rankings, especially when going after long tail keyword terms. You can rank well in Google, you just have to be diligent and try not to overdo your search engine optimization efforts. By working gradually, and using these tips, you will achieve page-one rankings.
